An obituary was published on the same day:

MR. R. J. THOMPSON. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] CHRISTCHURCH. Monday. The death took place to-day at. the Cashmere Hills Sanatorium of Mr. Robert John Thompson, B.A. Mr. Thompson was an old boy of the Waitaki High School and joined the staff of the Christchurch Boys' High School 17 years ago. He took a deep interest in the sporting side of the school and was senior sport master for six years. It was under his tuition that J. H. Parker and W. Dalley, the well-known Christchurch All Blacks, were produced. Near the beginning of 1920 Mr. Thompson's health began to fail and he went on leave to the sanatorium for two years, later returning to duty, but two years more service proved too great a draw on his strength and at the beginning of this year he again went on extended leave. Mrs. Thompson died five years ago. There is one child, a girl.41

Gael Thompson was researching the Mackintosh family and posted the following message to an Ancestry Message Board on 9 Jul 2000:

My Great Grandfather Henry Horsley Robinson MacKintosh was born in Auldearn in 1839 at Garlick Hill Farm house (opposite the present day pub there) - the youngest of the eleven children of John MacKintosh and Margaret Simpson. Going back on Margaret's line we link up with the Innes family at Garblies farm, and then back to Jean/Jane Falconer who lived there abouts round the mid 1700's.1
