Ann Hay, William Hudson and David Howard

Ann Hay was born on 10 July 1825 at Old Machar in Aberdeen, Scotland, the daughter of James Hay and Ann Barclay. Ann was their fourth child and third daughter. Ann was baptised on 12 October 1826 by the Rev. David Simpson with Andrew Sutherland and John Hay as witnesses.1 Ann arrived with her family in Van Diemen's Land aboard the Forth in 1833 at the age of seven, a momentous change for a child, starting with the long sea voyage and then a new life in what must have seemed a strange country.2 Later records indicate Ann couldn't write so it's unlikely she received an education.
