Irishtown is a rural farming district in the North-West of Tasmania. The area was named to acknowledge the high population of people from Ireland who lived there, and there were similarly named regions in most other states of Australia. The area was famous for its sporting prowess, particuarly in cricket and football. According to records of the Circular Head Football Association, The original clubs in the West Wellington FA were Forest, Irishtown and Stanley and these three clubs and Smithton form the CHFA from 1919. During this period Irishtown won 10 premierships in a row, which is a Tasmanian record and the third longest premiership streak across Australia. Source: Wikipedia
