Forest is a rural area in North West Tasmania, about 12 kilometers from Stanley. Both towns are part of the district of Circular Head. According to a history of the area compiled by Jill Shackcloth and the students of Smithton Primary, Forest was the forest in the beginning. Difficult now with its rich pastures and well-tilled fields; the tidy well-kept houses, to imagine the dark gloom of the forest in the 1830s, or the labour that went into it's clearing.
